The Art of Transforming Matter

Laura von Bischhoffshausen, professionally known as LAUVON, was born in San Antonio, a small coastal town in Chile, approximately 120 kilometres from Santiago.

From the age of six or seven, she developed a profound fascination with drawing, colour and the visual arts. Growing up between southern Chile and Santiago, her childhood was shaped by an instinctive curiosity that led her to explore unconventional artistic materials.

Flour, cornstarch, semolina, rice, tempera paints and watercolours became her first creative tools. She experimented with strainers and toothbrushes to spray and drip paint, invented her own mixtures and textures, and even transformed toasted pasta into colourful handmade necklaces, which she painted and sold as a young girl.

Her passion for museums, exhibitions and artistic exploration nurtured a largely self-taught education.

At a young age, she moved to Europe, drawn by her German family roots and a desire to explore new horizons. This period of change and new experiences broadened her perspective and enriched her artistic sensibility. Over time, she returned to painting with renewed intensity. After exploring oil painting, she discovered in acrylics and mixed media the expressive freedom that allowed her to develop her own distinctive artistic language.

Today, her work brings together colour, geometry, movement and matter. Sand, resins, metallic pigments, modelling pastes and sculptural reliefs give life to compositions in which experimentation and intuition play an essential role.

Each painting becomes a journey of discovery, evolving without a predetermined destination. The curious child who once invented techniques using everyday materials remains present in the artist who now transforms the canvas into a universe of textures and emotions.

“I do not simply paint pictures; I embroider them, stitch by stitch. I know how I begin, but never how I will finish.”
